Bangladesh won the toss. Half the battle was won then and there. The other half was conquered over the course of the day as Mominul Haque went another step closer to having a stand named after him at the ZACS, Chittagong. He roared the runs at almost a strike rate of 100 throughout the day and in the process created a few landmarks. He scored his fourth ton at this venue and scored the second quickest Test ton by a Bangladeshi. Sri Lanka, thanks to Lakmal did fight back with a couple of late strikes but with plenty of runs in the kitty, the fightback seemed to have timed out.
